How to get data for our free SEO forecaster tool

Posted February 11, 2026 by Will Critchlow

At SearchPilot, we’ve built two free tools to help you make better, data-driven decisions: SEO Forecaster (for predicting future organic traffic) and TestScout (for calculating how many SEO tests you can realistically run).

Both tools rely on your existing traffic data. Here is a simple guide on how to extract that data from Google Analytics using our Looker Studio template:

If you'd rather work through written instructions:

1. Connect the Looker Studio Report

The most efficient way to get your data is via our custom Looker Studio report.

  • Make a Copy: Open the SearchPilot Looker Studio template and create a copy.
  • Connect Your Source: Link the report to your specific GA4 property.

2. Define Your "Scalable" Pages

By default, the report may show "No Data" because of a placeholder filter. You need to tell the report which section of your site you want to analyze (e.g., your PDPs or PLPs).

  • Locate the Scalable Pages filter.
  • Update the filter to match the URL paths of the site section you are interested in.
  • Note: The report is pre-filtered for organic traffic, but you can adjust this if you want to forecast for other channels.

3. Set Your Date Range

Select the timeframe you need. For a solid forecast, we typically recommend looking at the last 90 days of traffic.

4. Export the Data

Once your table populates, it’s time to move the data into a spreadsheet:

  • Export the data from Looker Studio to Google Sheets or CSV.
  • For SEO Forecaster: Copy the entire table (Date and Page Views/Sessions) to paste into the tool.
  • For TestScout: You specifically need the number of unique paths and the session data for those paths.

5. Pro Tip: Dealing with Large Websites

If you are working with a large site, the direct GA4 connector might lead to data sampling. For more robust results:

  • Use Google’s Extract Data tool within Looker Studio.
  • Connect the report to this extracted data source for faster performance and unsampled numbers.
